Promil Nový Bydžov has dealt with commercial food supplement production since 1990. However, the first pilot production of concentrated WPC whey proteins took place in Nový Bydžov in 1976; it was used in the diet of Czechoslovak top athletes and Olympic competitors in ČSTV peak sports centres. Promil Nový Bydžov was the first producer of whey proteins concentrate and whey protein based products in Czechoslovakia.

Originally, these food supplements were created in order to support the performance of top athletes. Their practical use has brought many valuable findings that may be exploited in the diet of the sportsmen of all performance categories and specialisations. Provision of sufficient input of energy, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and microelements represents an essential precondition for successful sport performance. Such increased organism needs cannot be met by common diet; special food supplements are therefore used to supplement necessary agents aimed specifically for these purposes. With proper use of relatively small amounts of some of these supplements, the body may be helped with recovery, energy supplies, or with either required muscle growth or loss of fat.
